About the Conference
The African Language Teachers Association (ALTA) is a professional organization that works to promote the teaching of, and research in, African languages and cultures. ALTA’s annual conferences provide an avenue for teachers, researchers, students, and other stakeholders in the field to meet and share their experiences and best practices. The 2023 ALTA conference will take place at Howard University in Washington, DC, on April 14-15, 2023 under the theme, “Navigating Current Challenges in the Teaching and Learning of African Languages”. This year’s conference aims to pursue new pathways for innovative approaches in research and best practices, collaboration among African language educators and institutions, and positioning African languages at the center of the wider field of African Studies.
This year’s conference will be held at Howard University, in Washington, DC.

Meg Malone, Director of Assessment and Research, ACTFL
Meg Malone is currently the Director of Assessment, Research, and Development at ACTFL. She is a dynamic senior leader and researcher with deep knowledge across a broad spectrum of subject matter components including language test development, materials development, delivery of professional development and teacher training through both online and face-to-face methods, data collection, and survey research and program evaluation.
